Photography blog, Strobist, recently posted about taking photographs of people wearing glasses.
The entry features this video by photographer, Craig Burfoot.
It’s mostly a matter of common sense and trial and error. In the video, the photographer has fancy studio lighting, but the advice could easily apply to cheap light sources such a lamps or where you place your subject in relation to the sun. The comments on the entry are very useful, too.

reflections are annoying, yes, but another thing people who have STRONG glasses strike is the curve of the face thing (i don’t know what to call it). basically you can almost see where it would start to happen in that video still – the edge of the face you see through the lens on the left can look like it is really indented. it ruined my graduation photos because all you notice in the picture is my brother has a big chunk out of the side of his face! the photographer should have known what to do about that, right?
That’s great, however, half her face is in darkness while the other half is well lit, she needs some fill flash to reduce the shadow (but that would create reflection). Ideally, the best solution is to have another pair of glasses without lenses then there would be no issues with reflections no matter where the light source is from.
